One issue in the media today is the representation of women on social media. Most often the women all look very similar; slim bodies, long hair, perfect skin and most probably these things have been photoshopped but this does not stop young girls being influenced by the women they see and feeling insecure about the way they look. Teenagers feel they should change themselves simply because 'everyone' looks like that however in reality girls in the media all look the way they do because most media outlets are all controlled by the dominant ideology who want to show off the kind of things they themselves like without thinking of the impact it may have on the future generations. The 'ideal women' are shown off in most places e.g magazines, fashion shows, social media such as instagram and twitter.Women are also most often sexualised in the women, trying to suggest females are worthless and nothing but sexual objects. This would have a negative impact on the audience as following the hyperdermic needle theory, the information may be injected into them causing them to feel less confident within themselves. As social media and techonology plays a big part in todays society it is hard for women to escape these 'rules' of the standards of women.
